Handong-Pyeongdae Offshore Wind Project "Green Light" South Korea
Offshore winds Handong, Pyeongdae and Haengwon
The 'Handong-Pyeongdae Offshore Wind Power Project', which has been drifting for more than a year due to conflicts between villages depending on the location of the planned substation, etc., has recently been resolved, and attention is being paid to whether it is proceeding normally.
The Environmental City Committee of the Jeju Autonomous Provincial Council (Chairman Kang Seong-seong, Democratic Party, Hwabuk-dong, Jeju-si) visited offshore wind farm sites in Handong and Pyeongdae and Jeju Energy Corporation CFI Energy Future hall located in Haengwon to inspect the site.
A site visit was conducted to confirm whether the civil complaints among residents and villages raised so far had been resolved prior to the revision of the agreement on the contents of the Environmental Impact Assessment for the Jeju Handong and Pyeongdae Offshore Wind Power Project scheduled for the 1st. Previously, Jeju-do submitted the proposal to the prefectural council in September last year. In this regard, due to the conflict between villages, Huandu Commission said that it is necessary to carefully review the measures to reduce the harm to fishermen from the offshore wind power generation project, the local residents' acceptance problem, the influence of electromagnetic waves, the installation problem of facilities attached to power stations (substations), and the impact of the marine ecosystem. The review was suspended for some reason, and the work has been drifting for over a year.
The biggest complaint was the location of the substation. Both Handong-ri and Deputy Pyeong-ri opposed the introduction of substation facilities in their villages.
As a result of scrutiny of this paper, an agreement was finally reached between the Korea Power Corporation and the village to install one substation in each village, bringing the green light to the project.
An official from the Huandu District Committee of the county council said, "It was agreed to deal with the location of the sub-station, the biggest dispute, for each village one by one.
The project, promoted by Jeju Energy, is investing 650 billion won in project cost to build a 104.5mW offshore wind power complex, including the installation of 19 5.5mW wind turbines in an area of 5.63km2 of Handong-ri and Pyeongdae-ri, Gujwa- eup, Jeju-si for two years.
