Android users warned of the dangers of Squid Game apps
Lukasz Stefanko, a malware expert from international antivirus developer ESET , has warned Android users about the threat posed by apps associated with the popular Korean TV series Squid Game. Talk about its danger
The specialist discovered a malicious application on Google Play called Squid Game. She offered to put an image from a popular TV series on the phone screen saver, but in fact it subscribed users to paid services, and also intercepted SMS messages, contact list and other information that was stored on the device.
It is noticed that the Google Play App Store has already blocked the app. However, about five thousand people managed to download it.
According to the IT professional, there is no official app for the Squid game yet. Hackers take advantage of this: they create programs with similar names and use them to access user data. There are now more than 200 apps available for download on Google play , mentioning the names of Korean Dramas. Stefanko warned Android users about this and urged them to be careful when downloading new software.
Earlier, ESET cybersecurity specialist Jake Moore listed at Lenta.ru simple ways to protect himself online . The expert recommended enabling multi-factor authentication and storing passwords in a safe place.
